not to fret yet. Maybe she was mourning the horse that had a heart attack forcing her to wait.
Darn, shame, Dell, sounds like the horse was lost? Hope the rider was okay.

Glad Chuck is right on top of the subtleties with our girl, just have wait and see what's up, I guess.

Just what I needed...an excuse to finally see Arlington Park. :)

Of course, I am disappointed and concerned that Sumwon is not doing as well as we would want her to.

However, it makes me wonder how many times horses are run when they are not doing well but still not running a temperature. Another reason I am thankful that we have Chuck as a trainer and he is looking after our filly.

Very true. :)

I hope she starts to feel better soon. Horses are like people... they have their good days and their bad days. I'm sure she'll perk up soon.

anyone have any idea how long it takes for a horsey to get better and if it is the heat, how can you fix that problem? air conditioned stall?

Kasept 06-19-2007 01:31 AM

Quick update...

Chuck said yesterday around noon that Sumwon was noticably better, displaying more energy... May simply have been fighting off a bug or was torpid from the oppressive heat...

Very good news Steve, thanks for the update.

Steve, did you use the word "torpid" as an adjective or a noun?
because as a noun, you would have just called Sumwon an "an eight-oared, clinker-built boat used for races at Oxford University during the Lenten term".:D

Riot 06-19-2007 05:29 AM

Thanks much for the update, Steve.

It has indeed been torpid (adj.) around here :p - like a steam bath, even at 7:00am ! Miserable, even in the fields some of the horses are just standing around in the shade, sweating a bit; and it's always difficult to be Angus in KY in the summer if you don't have a farm pond ...

I'm going to Churchill tomorrow for fun and the Pick 6, I'll stop by and say hello to Sumwon from everyone :)

Edit: torpid, as in, "I've been torpid from the heat, too - pass the pitcher of frozen margaritas!"

Well, though I did row heavyweight 8's at Colgate, I was suggesting torpid as in sluggish.

Hickory Hill Hoff 06-19-2007 06:28 AM

The weather men in these parts say it will be very hot & muggy today...thus I will be very torpid by this evening!

Torpid is the word of the day

Unstable 06-19-2007 09:38 AM

Glad to hear that Sumwon is doing better. And that she will be going from torpid to torpedo very soon. Torpid... I haven't seen that word used since my English Lit classes years ago in college. Or maybe it was in one of those Readers' Digest Add To Your Vocabulary sections. I'll have to see how many times I can use that word today. ;)

can someone check on Sumwon's sleep number hay mattress, maybe it needs adjusting in all the heat ??? sure glad to hear she's better, probably just one of those things we all go through time to time...

blackthroatedwind 06-19-2007 12:29 PM

I wonder if " torpid " was yesterday's word of the day for Steve.

As in "not all oars in the water" :p

I can't blame the girl - the heat makes me absolutely lethargic.

A quick look at the weather shows Monmouth anticipated to be 75 degrees on Saturday 6/23 would've been great racing weather and Churchill Downs in the 90s all next week till 6/28.

That is a long way away so here's hoping a nice cooling breeze heads that way.

Glad to hear it. So still hope to do some Saratoga prepping on 7/1 or 7/4 at Churchill?

SniperSB23 06-22-2007 04:37 PM

Looks like she would have had a pretty good shot at hitting the board in the Monmouth race but would have had a very tough time winning. Both Perfect Forest and Ethan's Car look very tough. She likely would have had to chase Perfect Forest the whole way and have never caught her while trying to hold off Ethan's Car and others. Hopefully we can find a place to get her some blacktype without having to run into the likes of Perfect Forest.

imo perfect forest will not be able to wire this field. If she were to have shipped to Monmouth with her "pre-bug" form I think she would have fit nicely here.
