I will be wearing my dunce cap tomorrow, this horse was so obvious yet I did not see it. Boy this game really needs a champion. Go Street Sense !!!!:)

Hickory Hill Hoff 05-05-2007 09:09 PM

Only four horses were "finishing" the race, the "superfecta" finishers...NONE of the others were anywhere...NO excuse for any of them! If anyone is beating him...it would be the 2nd or 3rd horse & maybe a "new shooter".
Forget five through twenty....

Really? why?
Street Sense took the lead at about 1 1/8 miles, and led for the length of the stretch.

The Preakness is only 100 yards shorter than the Derby.

calvin knows the race is shorter, and will ride accordingly. i look forward to a rematch between the two horses in maryland.

Good to hear that! :)

hard spun ran beautifully, i was yelling for him to relax a bit! he did ok, just a shame that he lost. but if he was going to lose, i knew it would be to that guy. street sense is good--i don't get the overpowering sense from him that i have from past winners-but his derby was a good race, can't take a thing away from him. top two are definitely good horses. curlins lack of seasoning imo contributed to his finishing back, but his raw talent got him third. look for more from him in future, today only being his fourth run ever.

I can't see it. I could be wrong, but I think that Street Sense is the least likely possible TC winner out of the past five Derby winners or so (except maybe Giacomo). This is because I think Nafzger saw the Debry as the goal all along, and it's going to be extremely difficult to get him fully cranked again for 9 1/2 furlongs in two weeks, then 12 three weeks later.

Boils down to whether or not you saw Street Sense's race today as his absolute best or not. I think any regression or lack of fitness will knock him out and I think one or the other is likely to happen.

Danzig 05-05-2007 09:40 PM

i do know that hard spun doesn't make it a habit to lose. i really think he could turn the tables in a couple weeks. but then again, less horses, slightly shorter...does curlin make his presence known?

gonna be a long two weeks.

Couldn't disagree more. Street Sense had already passed Hard Spun by 1 1/8 and the Preakness is a little longer at 1 3/16.

Danzig 05-05-2007 10:08 PM

preakness is a whole new ball game. anything can happen. no two races are run the same way.

AeWingnut 05-05-2007 10:18 PM

did someone hit the exacta?

btw

Zanjero had plenty of excuses
he checked repeatedly and running 3rd would have given me the trifecta 2 times... so ofcourse he couldn't get there
ofcourse the only one that was moving was Street Sense
everyone else was just playing pinball.

I never saw the blanket of roses on SS
did he get warm and have to be cooled off?

Suffolk Shippers 05-05-2007 11:39 PM

Let's just remember the Preakness is now the race for new shooters and Maryland wannabes...I don't think any of us can be certain we will see Hard Spun or Curlin in Baltimore. I know Pletcher has already ruled all five of his entries that went today out.

No certainity, but I'm just saying, the middle jewel might not be as big a contest and people are thinking.

Now the Belmont...:)

Really? Even though SS was a length in front of him at that point?

Except? The Green Monkey, today, is just as likely to win the Triple Crown as Giacomo was after winning the Derby. I would say both were right around zero percent.

The Indomitable DrugS 05-06-2007 04:01 AM

If Afleet Alex had not found a way to stay up....Giacomo would have taken the Preakness by DQ.

A horse who finished 3rd beaten 7 or more lengths has never come so close to winning a triple crown race.
