I was looking at the national league today and there seems like 10 teams that have a legit shot. It is funny that so many complain about the big market/small market stuff in baseball but it seems like there are more teams wth a legit shot to get to the playoffs than the NFL which is supposedly the model of parity.

I'm actually watching Game 4 against the Yankees right now, and Bondo is absolutely SICK!

But, baseball is my sport, and I have been watching the Tigers for years now and knew they were on the right path. My dad had a nice little bet on them in Vegas last year to make the World Series, then he put a little of his winnings on them to win it.

This team is the real deal. And Brandon Inge is the man!

Most important answer to your question? Because I think that they aren't as good as they looked last year. Waiting and seeing is boring. I'd much rather be able to resurrect this thread this fall after they miss the playoffs and be able to say I was right.

What fun would that be if I said, "Well, let's wait and see."

Picking winners is all about passing judgment. If you don't agree, I'd be hard pressed to take you seriously as a horseplayer.

It does hurt. We're going to learn fast about Chad Durbin and Zach Miner.

Where's Joe Sparma when we need him.

ND,

You seemed to have passed judgement on them by declaring them the '07 Series winners, why can't B-Dub pass judgement like you did?

Can't have it both ways.

Not bashing you. Been a Tigers fan since before you were born. Unfortunately, I had to stay home with my Grandma and miss the '68 World Series game my Dad and Mom took my two brothers to. I did make it to the series in '84. Also was at old Comisky April 7, 1984 and saw Jack Morris no-hit the Sox. An absolute blast (roadtripped with three friends) only had a half dozen or so beers thrown on us from Sox fans as we cheered Morris the Cat on from down the right field line.

LOL. Old school Tigers fan. I was at game 5 in '68. Lolich got a big hit and Brock forgot to slide. Remember it like yesterday.

I agree that passing judgement is fun to do and everything, but I guess what I'm saying Bryan is that I don't think you can call last years team lucky, that just isn't right. They made it to the World Series, they were a damn good team and are even better right now. Bondo is going to be absolutely SICK. His new Changeup is going to be brutal and give all hitters a headache.

Do you think the Cardinals were a "damn good team?"

They actually won the World Series, and I couldn't in good faith call them a "damn good team."

Not even close, in fact.

We'll see how the season shakes out. Your thing is baseball, and baseball is not my top "thing." I wouldn't be shocked if I am wrong, because I am not a religious baseball fan, but I follow it regularly. I actually think it's boring, but I'm addicted to following all sports, so it's not like I'm shooting blanks here just to mess with you. But like I said, I'm perfectly willing to take the stand and let them prove to me that last year wasn't a lucky exception.

Next time you go to a game, try playing the 'mound game.' Everyone puts $1 in a hat. You take turns holding the hat for 1/2 inning. If at the end of the half inning the ball winds up rolling onto the pitchers' mound, whoeveris holding the hat wins its contents. Everone puts in another $1 and the hat gets passed. If the ball doesn't land on the mound, everyone puts in another $1 and the hat gets passed to next in line (aka, "mound game carryover").

Now that would make baseball exciting!

It does liven things up.

Carryovers are very common these days with the players tossing the balls into the stands. The umps with decent arms usually wait until the pitcher strolls to the mound and throws him a new ball....carryover.

Had one ump last year that didn't like to throw them to the pitcher so nearly every half inning he was rolling them out there. My buddies and I were going crazy waiting for the ball to come to a stop.

Detroit will lose today. I just know it. :D
