but, with that said I think that he is the best horse in that group of horses. maybe not today but I also think he will be by far the best horse out of this group at 1 1/4. too bad he probably wont get in :(

i agree completely! second maybe, but not first...as for best in the group at 10, i'll wait til i see them run the distance!

Chelokee only showed that he doesn't have the heart to deal with the class of horse he would have seen in the Derby. The ride he got from Dominguez was as good as any one could have expected - and believe me, there isn't a bigger RD critic on this board than me - the horse simply didn't fire when the opportunity arose and RD urged him.
I'm confused by the lack of respect given Scat Daddy here - he has done everything asked, and has actually faced stiff competition since the Champange...Why no love? He's got as good a shot as No Biz or Great Hunter
at this point, and may even be inclined to put him up with Street Sense. He sure looked today like 1 1/4 won't be an issue....He's moved up on my list for sure.

The good thing is that Daddy believers will get a good price on Derby day, I just won't be one of them.

i couldn't believe when he got pinched, but thats what happens sometimes when you try that move, you're a hero or a goat.

I think he may have won with a clear trip, but not by that much.

to me he is definitely the best horse in the race, including Scat Daddy, Stormello, Notional, Adore the Gold, you can have all of them. I think they all will have no bearing on the derby.

i agree, i did not think much of chelokee after his last race, i stated on this site that i wasent impressed and that i liked the second place finisher for you reppo better..... well after today my mind has been changed, i was wrong about chelokee he is a real good horse with a big heart and i think he has the biggest future out of the group he faced today .

Could I still get a 1000-1 then?....Actually he'll have a terrible time making the earnings cut.

i disagree, i have watched the race 3 times, he got shut off then swung wide and still closed well, i think he has alot of heart....

lol i was wrong i liked what i saw today, but when i was making my arguement about 1000-1 i stated many many times that part of that was because he would have a hard time even making the starting gate.

Chelokee ran a good race, but he was not going to beat SCAT DADDY today. I never understood why so many "so called" horse racing fans can't wait to take a shot at a horse that has won two G1's and two G2's. If his career ended tomorrow, he'll go down as one of a few to win G1's at age 2 & 3. I wanted to thank Joel Cunningham, who told me about him when he was working out at Churchill Downs with some of Pletcher's best prior to his debut at Belmont. Personally, he was part of my NTRA National Pick 4 score when he won the Champagne, made my trip to Florida a profitable one in the FOY, and allowed me to end up on the plus side today. I'm not saying he's going to win the Kentucky Derby, but he's talented and has a huge heart.

SCAT DADDY!!!!!!!!!!!!! Making believers out of all the doubters!!!

Danzig 04-01-2007 12:39 AM

i would say that chelokee has a fair amount of heart, he got a some rough running (albeit briefly) and didn't quit--so he's better than some on that dept. be interesting to watch and see just where he fits in.

I don't think he beats Scat Daddy, but he is second no doubt, and not too far off of Scat. Do I think Chelokee is the best coming out of the race, yes. Scat showed he is good. Edgar did a good job keeping him out of trouble. Still can't stand him though and want no part of him May 5th.

Its always a good sign when someone can separate who they bet from what actually happened in the race. Kudos.

TheSpyder 04-01-2007 06:38 AM

The one missing point is aside from the brief trouble he had a dream trip taken close to the rail and saved a ton of ground compared to his last race. He had some trouble but IF HE EVEN MADE the Derby you can't expect him not to have nay trouble with his running style.

If he went wide today, he would have taken a longer path and been frther behind when he made his move. As someone else said, he had a openning and if he would have accelerated at that point fast enough he would have gotton through.

I do like the horse and bet him. He might improve, he's lightly raced.

Take nothing away for scat Daddy, good horse, not great.

Derby = short price, dont like a horse that just ran 2 big races in a row.I would love to book that action on him all day long. This is why betting horses is so tuff to beat. You may have the best horse,BUT,you still have to hope that little monkey on his back does not get in trouble. The reason I sold my horses were I could not stand the reasons these jocks would tell me after the race. Then after I sold my horses, took a class on anger management for 2 weeks.

Good summary of my thoughts as well. Sometimes the rail opens and the jockey is appauded for having guts, other times you get pinched. If he gets through it might have been a close finish. Still don't know if he would have got there. Chelokee is however one horse who is making very good progress, moving forward each race. What I like about him is that he is more full of late run than others in that race.

IrishofNDMan 04-01-2007 02:10 PM

I am starting to see why everyone gets on PG1985 now, so maybe youth is not the issue, rather stupidity.
