i have to agree... I am not positive if Chelokee would have won but he would have been real close. sucks.. proly wont make the derby now

Danzig 03-31-2007 05:04 PM

stormello should be removed from any derby lists. left alone on the lead, gave it up pretty easy. no way he gets another 8th...

pgardn 03-31-2007 05:35 PM

In my one viewing so far, Notional had no excuses except time between races. Adore the Gold, Stormello and Scat Daddy were the three that ran harder to begin with. Notional sat so pretty in 4th. Had to go wide on the turn home, but with a trip that easy, it was right there for the taking and he could not make it. Dont know if another 5 weeks will help.

Actually Notional sat 5th as I rewatch. No excuses other than he will be ready for the Derby. The trip was so nice for this horse.

It is a bit of stretch to say Chelokee would have won. Stormello had no excuse, the fractions were soft enough for this quality.

Danzig 03-31-2007 05:39 PM

i don't know that chelokee would have won had he had a clear trip...no way i'd say he was the best in the race just because at one point he had to check.
scat daddy seemed to handle everyone ok, which should tell you just how much to depend on any one of these in may.

Damn Hooves...I'm commenting on todays win only. I'm not saying he's a Derby shoo-in winner...he does have a good future ahead of him in the summer and fall I hope!:)

No offense, but no horse not trained by Todd Pletcher was passing Scat Daddy Today:mad:

Sightseek 03-31-2007 05:51 PM

Scat Daddy is a much better horse than I ever gave him credit for.

That about sums it up for me too. After the Holy Bull, I had pretty much written him off as a contender in the major 3yo races this spring. His last two have demonstrated that I was very wrong.
I still don't anticipate that I will include him in any wagers on Derby day, but I certainly vastly underestimated this horse's ability.

sumitas 03-31-2007 07:03 PM

he impressed in the Sanford was it ? when he dug deep to beat Tueflesberg. i'm not a fan of his breeding effective tho it is, that's for another thread, but he's tough.

Antitrust32 03-31-2007 07:12 PM

never underestimate the best trainer with the best vet...

brianwspencer 03-31-2007 07:18 PM

not sure matz would be crazy about running him again before the derby -- but that $100k from today puts him right on the cusp of the earnings cutoff at this moment.

smuthg 03-31-2007 07:20 PM

replay of the race?

anyone know where I can find a replay of the race for free?

ANSWERED MY OWN QUESTION- ESPN.COM has the replay on their horse racing page.

Jack Junior will also be toying with the idea of running in the Derby so that will set him further down the list.
