i told you....i am bitter about the bern-hype from last year. that's it. i did bet invasor and i didn't bet hk. i guess you will just have to take my word on that. i don't claim to be a great handicapper. i know i've lost a lot more $$ than i've won over the years, and i'll gladly fess up to the ones i get wrong.
the bernmafia just really rubbed me the wrong way last year. i guess in part because i am huge fan of secretariat and barbaro. i still remember when bern won the jim dandy last year one of them started a thread called "barbaro who?" and then they started talking about how he was better than secretariat. frankly stuff like that (and there was a lot of it) just pissed me off, and so, i take every opportunity to rip the horse.

Honestly no one will argue that HK is not exactly the cream of the crop in the US handicap division. My why bring it up now is in regards to bernardini. What exactly was the point of this thread than, if not to gloat months after the fact that Invasor beat Bernardini? I love when people start a thread with something in mind, then after called on it play the "aww shucks folks what are you guys talking about?" Very cool.

well i actually had no way of knowing that me picking invasor in the classsic was going to come up. how many people even remember that? i know ateamstupid does because we had a big discussion/argument about it, but if he hadn't been on tonight (and i didn't know he was) i doubt if it would have come up. i intended this thread to be about the sorry level of competition bernardini competed against last year.
as for bringing it up after hk's last race....i would have if i had known he had raced! this is the first time i heard his name this year.

think what you will man....but i am not looking for praise. i mean honestly it wansn't exactly the pick of the century. the horse was coming off of 3 straight g1 wins. he wasn't exactly 99/1. THOUSANDS of people picked him. and for the last time....I AM NOT THE ONE THAT BROUGHT THAT PICK UP!!!!

avance,
Yes Bernardini's competition last year was quite poor.
Yes he was extremely overhyped.
The problem is, that would be true if HK won today, or finished last today, or scratched today, or covered a mare today, or made sweet stallion-on-stallion love with War Emblem today. What he did today has nothing really to do with anything that happened last year.
You said you want to take "every reasonable opportunity to rip this horse." Fine, but this wasn't one of them.

That's fine. But how long are you going to have this chip on your shoulder? I didn't like all the Barbaro = Secretariat hype last year. Do I make a thread every time Sharp Humor or Brother Derek or Sinister Minister or any of those other god awful horses he beat in the Derby loses? No, because that's extremely petty, proves no point and does nothing other than make me look bitter.

There should be a statute of limitations on chest-thumping.

Geez, let it go advance, Bernardini was a fine horse, not one of the greats, but this is a little silly...

To me the Bernardini bashing is something like the Mineshaft bashing of 2003. Maybe people who do this resent horses that are bred to the purple, especially sons of A.P. Indy. It is just a thought, but I remember someone at another forum who frequently took cheap shots at A.P. Indy.
