There are a few South American Group 1 winners in that race, who already have Group Stakes wins over this track. This is no cupcake spot.

The only real concern I see is that fact that Godolphin is 0-for-29 there, with 22 of the losers either the favorite or 2nd favorite in the betting. That is out and out bizarre. This is the same stable that won almost 50% of the races they entered in America last year. Running 1-2 in a couple.

I guess their are rumors starting that the emerging super trainer Ismail Mohammed might take Saeed bin Suroor's job in the not to distant future. It would probably not be good for racing to see Suroor, a former police officer, who many consider highly ethical, to be replaced by a guy who all of a sudden looks like the Dutrow of Dubai.

Wow. i did not know Suroor was a police officer.

If I remember correctly, there was some horse that ran in the UAE Derby last year that carried close to 137 lbs. I think he finished 3rd. There isn't some exchange rate where 1lb here is equal to .7 in Dubai is there?

But you also know such things can be valid. When Ghostzapper lost in the King's Bishop, to a pair of very inferior horses, Bobby Frankel's barn was similarly ice cold--and could not buy a win for a stretch of time.

What Ghostzapper's effort really showed was how random these supposed cold streaks can be as in actuality he won that race by about five lengths. Or, perhaps you want to suggest that had Frankel been winning there wouldn't have been a bias that day AND Ghostzapper wouldn't have been shuffled and wide?

You are so excited about Thursday that you're coming apart at the seams.

No, a pound is a pound.

The Southern Hemisphere 3-year-olds have to carry a lot more weight than the Northern Hemisphere 3-year-olds in the UAE Derby. Which is why Discreet Cat got a break in weights from Simpatico Bribon, Invasor, and Gold For Sale in last years edition

Discreet Cat's half brother won an allowance race on that same card, at the same distance, that was run in faster final time than that King's Bishop.

And yeah, I'm seeing a trend where you seem to label the vast majority of race tracks speed biased on big racing days. Ghostzapper had a very tough trip in the race, and yeah speed was probably preferred, but he also got a lot of pace, and simply did not run as good that day as any of his other career wins in my opinion. Perhaps the effort might have been slightly better than his sharp alw win over Clockstopper earlier in the meet.

Ten Most Wanted won the Travers that year, with complete ease, while making a wide swooping move from well off the pace. The day's opener was won by a deep closer. I don't remember all the details of that day, but I do remember I didn't have the track being strongly speed biased.

Even with trip and circumstances factored in, of course Ghostzapper ran markedly better in every start of his career after that King's Bishop. That was an EXTREMELY low rated running of the King's Bishop, and the pace was certainly there for him.

Obviously just kidding on the exchange rate... I remembered the Northern Hemisphere v. Southern Hemisphere distinction from last year.

Whatever happened with Simpatico Bribon; wasn't he actually the favorite in the UAE Derby last year?

The Indomitable DrugS 02-27-2007 03:43 PM

Yes he was.

Like many horses who go to Ian Jory, he hasn't been seen or heard from since

smuthg 02-27-2007 04:05 PM

Not familiar with Ian Jory; sounds like a real winner though...

SteelKrtan 02-27-2007 04:11 PM

better watch out i see Miss Andretti is set to go head on with discreet cat on the 31st march & belivie me she is no slouch, prob our best sprinter at minute as takeover target is spelling:)

He trained in Southern California for a while. To his credit, he had the outstanding gelding Best Pal for a while, and didn't ruin him.

He was like 312948925 wide and had to check on the turn, and was about the only runner that day that made any progress from off the pace. That's why he lost. I bet a boatload of money on him that day and felt ill that he didn't win because he was so tons the best it was scary (I think we all know that now). He galloped out 10 lengths in front...

Valid Video never came back well from his injury but he was a top quality 3YO sprinter when he won that race. To call him mediocre is unfair.

miles2135 02-27-2007 05:24 PM

DAY PASS who is undefeated and has been switched to Godolphin also runs Thursday night. I believe he won the Nashau at Acqueduct. He is using his race as a prep for the UAE Derby. Thor's Echo also runs. Three horses who ran in America last year will be in three different races on Thursday night so be sure to check the results.

Also Day Pass PP's are included in that "Derby Contender" pile of PP's

If JALAAL beats Discreet Cat, I know one poster who shall become suicidal.;)

Have fun Gotodubai!

randallscott35 02-27-2007 05:42 PM

Can you give me the eastern time for this race.

brockguy 02-27-2007 05:43 PM

Day Pass will have to be very very good to win his reappearance race. Asiatic Boy,

cant wait to see Imperial Stride back. If he can get near his best, he's one of the best 12f horses in the world. Also Best Name and Best Alibi who could develop into serious horses this season.

Miss Andretti won't be running in any race with Discreet Cat.

But I'll bet you some American sprinter strokes her ass down that 6 furlong straight.

Scurlogue Champ 02-27-2007 06:32 PM

Choctaw Nation running as well in the last I believe.

The German horse is running too, and he is pretty tough. QUIJANO is his name

Im not a keen fan of lee freeman anyway the only reason he ended up with her is his usual way of throwin money at the owners, But in saying that she is a freak a real throw back:eek:

I worked for the Freedman's for a bit. She is really fast, but they will run her in the sprint, not the Cup at 1 1/4. She is a fast whore though. Did you see the South African filly run at Dubai last week? She is fairly fast as well.
