I have a whole host of goods I would like to sell the people who bought Teuflesburg as a Derby prospect. It happens he's a nice horse and if led in a more realistic direction could do very well. However, he just won his last meaningful race going two turns in all likelihood.

Just read somewhere that Teufels got a 9 and hard spun got a 6 rags number for their last race.

I don't know anything about their actual figures so it would be unfair to comment.

I am simply amazed at the amount of money people will pay for overrated horses who realistically have no chance of winning the Kentucky Derby. Like the topic of the original post, JS is an ok horse who might have a racing future but he is not a Triple Crown prospect. Same with Teuflesburg. Might do some nice things down the road but a Classic contender?

It really blows my mind when I think about how successful most of these buyers are in their personal businesses.

Excellent point. Truly must be treated as a hobby or just like most of us but on a bigger scale, a gamble

People have paid a lot, people have also paid a little.

What makes businessmen successful, is their willingness to take risks. One that doesn't, and works 8-5 in safety, he's rarely as successful as his counterpart. Very rarely.

What I find more amazing is given the winners of ....say, the last five years' Derbys, and other Classics, given the exception of Barbaro.

Who would've thought, and apparently very few, that War Emblem had a remote shot, same goes for Funnycide.

These horses outrun their pedigree time and time again, year after year.

Smarty Jones was fast, Tuefsbg fast, why should I think that Tuefsbg can't pull off the win.

I can't come to that conclusion at this point. I think its futile to make such comments this early.

This is something that worries me about messageboards, one concludes it, others swear to it. Too early.

Because Smarty Jones had not shown a propensity to fail a number of times going long at this point. Because Teuflesburg is not actually running THAT fast at this point in his career. Because Funny Cide had an excellent 2 YO season that carried over into a 3YO season where he was Graded Stakes placed going two turns and was not at all embarrassed during this run of races.

Teuflesburg has already proven that he is not Derby calliber. Too overpay for him at this point is ridiculous. And because a group of people agree to something on a message board does not indicate what your last comment implies. Only means you dont agree with the majority which is fine. Thats actually what I like about message boards

plahotnyu 02-27-2007 02:00 PM

And to disagree is fine, its in how we do it. Thanks for posting.

The FOY is shaping up to be a nice looking race. Looks like Stormello is not scared by NoBiz.

The trainer is just pissed that Nobiz was an Eclipse finalist instead of him and is blaming it on the East Coast bias so wants to go beat Nobiz and prove his point. Unfortunately for him, he is just going to wind up proving the opposite.

Buffymommy 02-27-2007 02:59 PM

Not sure of that. I like Stormello (the horse) not his connections, but I don't know who will be my pick actually. Just think that it is shaping up to be a nice race. I am kinda upset that I can't make it down to Gulfstream because of a horse show.
