Are you kidding me? A lane violation in what would of been a 2 point game with 10 seconds to go. Very weak call by the zebras there. Not to mention that NM got screwed out of a couple tenths of a second when the ball went out of bounds.

MaTH716 03-19-2010 09:06 PM

Beat me to it Joey, Reguardless, it was bad.

There are quite a few people in cbb that want to shine Izzo's knob.

That was ****ING HORSESHIT! I could give a fvck about New Mexico State, its about what is right and fair. It shouldn't matter what the name on your jersey says, but apparently if it's Villanova or Michigan State and you are viewed as a potential ratings generator you get preferential calls, like a ****in lane violation call in a 2 point game after a bricked free throw. Call me a conspiratist but I can GUARANTEE if the situation was reversed Michigan State would NOT have been called.

And then they don't review the clock after the ball went out of bounds, forcing them into an impossible last shot?

While i'm sure this will send you into convulsions that was clearly a lane violation and the last 8 minutes of the game were why the quality of the college game has declined. NMS didnt take ONE GOOD SHOT the last 8 minutes of the game. They seemingly had no offensive sets or an idea of how to create a shot for another player. They didnt box out on the defensive end. They never sent a single guy to hit the offensive boards. They bailed out Mich st at least twice with bad fouls as the shot clock was running down. They missed FT's. If you want to blame the refs for them losing the game on a violation then you watched a completely different game than I did.

Michigan State wasnt much better though they did run a decent set offense which got them open looks and did dominate the defensive boards.

Cannon Shell 03-19-2010 09:33 PM

There was like zero chance that New Mexico State was getting a good shot regardless of being down 2 or 3 or if they had 30 seconds or 2. Sure the game was close and when a lower seed might upset a high seed it can be exciting. But that was a terrible display of basketball.

Phil it WAS a violation and New Mexico State's offense seemingly revolves around impossible shots.

This situation has nothing to do with the play of NMS down the stretch, but rather if the roles were reversed the call WOULD NOT have been made. It was blatantly slobbing the knob of a "preferred" team. As for the level of play, my eyes are burning from watching this Cal-Ville game. These teams are just dreadful. I was semi-OK with expansion but with more games like this = no thanks.

If Cal is dreadful, what does that make Louisville? Cal will beat Duke.

It is a dead ball violation. The ref was right behind him and the guy stepped in the lane 3 seconds before the shot went up. Instead of calling out the refs for doing his job correctly perhaps the mental errors that new mexico State should have drawn more ire. You know like committing a lane violation in that situation? In an era where we stop the game to check replays it is hard to criticize the ref for making an easy call.

They both just suck. And I would be overjoyed if either of them beat Duke...

It is like traveling in the NBA, only called when "opportunistic". It's the first one I've seen called all year in probably 100-150 games I've watched. No question in my mind that it wouldn't have been called had the situation been reversed.

Not really. Traveling is quite subjective. That was clearly a lane violation, it wasn't the wrong call. you may quibble with the timing but again the ref didnt push that guy into the lane, he did it all on his own. And like I said earlier what makes you think that new mexico state was going to get a better shot than they got? They played the last part of the game like the lane was forbidden territory despite Mich St being in serious foul trouble. No penetration and kick outs, no ball movement, nothing but forced, contested, off balance jumpers. Seriously go to youtube or wherebever you can watch the last 7 or 8 mins and tell me where they got one good shot.

NMS missed 10 of 11 shots or something down the stretch. I'm not arguing their poor play. Just whether it would have been called the same way if the roles were reversed and it wouldn't have been.

And it wasnt as though they were missing open looks. I didnt think the refs favored anyone in that game overall. Why would the ref decide to screw New Mexico state on that call? It just makes no sense especially since the violation was pretty clear. The refs are more worried about their own grading than who wins the game.
