1) Lost the toss going into OT. Should have called tails

2) Shouldn't have that stupid rule (1st team to score wins the game.)Agree...dont think they should adopt college stuff, but each team should either kick off once or get possesion through punt

3) Kicker should of knocked it out of the end zone (instead, a tired team has to cover a return.)Longwell ain't that young anymore

4) Really bad P.I. call in OT (really points out why OT shouldn't be won by the 1st team to get a field goal.) I think the receiver literally tripped over his own feet and wasn't even touched, not even to mention the ball was uncatchable

5) Didn't get the call on a a questionable catch in OT. I've seen that go either way. To me, it's a catch, but often it's not to them.I think it was a catch and there definitely wasn't enough evidence to overturn call on the field

6) Some fool didn't have his hands in the proper position to receive the hand-off from Farve (after the Bush Blunder.) Yep, there's that 3 points that turned out to be rather necessary. That was a killer play for Vikes and really let Bush off the hook for a dumb and selfish play on the punt.

7) Should you really expect a Q.B. to be able to win a game when his team is not taking care of the football at all?

8) How about giving the Saints some credit for pounding him? It's pretty predictable that a hurt Q.B. will be one who makes an important mistake. Fact is he got them to a tie, and then he never got a chance to play in O.T. He made some really nice passes to get them into Saints territory on that last drive. He played a lot better than I expected. The rest of his team played a little worse than I expected. Saints didn't play very well. If they cover like that, then Manning will destroy them.[/quote]Most amazing stat to me was that Favre was actually never sacked once ( I think)..He was absolutely killed back there and that probably let to him not just taking off with the ball instead of throwing back across the field

Pass Interference may have been the wrong call if the ball was uncatchable but it is still illegal contact which is 5 yards and an automatic first down. I didn't see anything in Minnesota's defense down the stretch to suggest that Brees wouldn't have drove them down anyways if they only called illegal contact.

Also, major props have to go to Jermon Bushrod (great last name). Jared Allen was practically nonexistent after the national anthem and he was blocked one on one a lot of the game.

Do you think the Viking LB even touched him? I''m not sure I saw contact at all.

Yeah, I thought there was no question that there was contact beyond five yards.

You want that called all the time?

As a defensive guy I absolutely despise illegal contact. It is a rule put in to make it virtually impossible to cover wide receivers. But the rule is in place so yes they should absolutely make that call anytime a defender initiates contact beyond 5 yards.

That's what I thought at first, but then saw the replay and it looked like his own feet got tangled..oh well..wasn't obvious either way

yeah...an endzone shot might have cleared things up

i also think there are far too many rules these days to get the score high. apparently some like a game such as the pack/cards game a few weeks back. i can't stand high scoring, no d games.

regardless of rules, refs are terribly inconsistent.

and yeah, favre was getting murdered last night. saints made him pay dearly for the passing game. the colts won't make the same mistakes the vikings made; i expect a saints loss in miami.

Coach Pants 01-25-2010 01:41 PM

I expect the Saints to win. I'm still not sold on the Colts' secondary.

I am torn between wanting to see Favre actually retire now so that his last pass with EACH of his three teams would be an interception....

or

see him come back next year to hopefully end yet ANOTHER conference championship game with a moronic interception.

Either way, I got a lot of satisfaction out of watching him fail last night. Seeing that last pick was almost as satisfying as watching Tebow and the Gators going down to Alabama.

Technically his last pass with the Jets was a completion to Leon Washington on a play that ended with Favre getting a lateral and then throwing an illegal forward pass. Despite the penalty Favre was still credited with a completion for 6 yards on the play.

Damn...I was thinking it was an interception for some reason.

Oh well. I guess:
Interception
Illegal forward pass
Interception

would still be a fitting end for each of his stints.

He had an interception on his second to last pass with the Jets, I was hoping it was his last pass as well. You can try and not count the last one cause the play ended with a penalty but the initial completion on the play did show up in the box score.

Leave it to a Sniper to know such things.

Minnesota was clearly the better team yesterday...period. They were a couple of bad breaks from being in the bowl. How that can be construed as anything but a raging success is beyond me but I guess we all have an agenda.

Minnesota destroyed the cowboys last week and outplayed or at very least equalled the play of the number 1 seed in the NFC on the road in the conference championship. How does that have anything to do with schedule at this point?

If Favre sucked, I would have been the first to step up and say that I was wrong. He didnt just surpass anyone's expectations, he left even the highest of expectations in another stratosphere. He led a young team with a nondescript group of receivers into one of the most successful passing attacks in the NfL.

This is almost as retarded as the back and forth about delonte West last spring. Actually, its probably even more remedial...which is quite a statement.

Well you were wrong about Delonte West but you are right about this. My question to people who think this wasnt a successful year is Where you you think they finish with the Sage Rosenfields/Tarvaris jackson two headed monster at QB?

AeWingnut 01-26-2010 07:11 AM

I just like to point out that the last thing Favre did was throw an interception AGAIN

and as far as bad breaks.. what about all the Peterson fumbles that were recovered by the Vikings?

Just about everyone I know is relieved that we won't have to hear them drone on and on about Brett Favre this and that in the Superbowl

10-6, their defense wins at Dallas in the Wild Card round, and then they get blown out at New Orleans in the divisional. Look at that schedule they played.
