tell me why it's not the case look at boston's home record

i know someone who watches all the red sox games , it's getting laughable (the strike zone) now , even bobby cox went off about it

they don't get the same treatment on the road ----that's why they win 20 more games a year at home , it's that simple folks

Yeah, Bobby Cox should talk.
But theSox were/are a good team. Are you trying to say that the umps have that much influence that made the Sox play 24 games over .500 at home?

not 24 , they are +116

why can't they beat the same teams on the road over '04-'09 , what, do the good players from the other teams not play(sit on the bench) when they are in boston? i don't think so

i could see 1 yr , maybe 2yr's ,but now we are going on more than a half decade - this has to stop

Ok, so over a 4 year period it's 29 games over .500 at home. So they roughly went 53-29 at home during the last 4 years. With a big bulk of games against the Jays, O's and Rays (who before last year were not good & you can actually throw the bombers in there too). I guess you discount home field advantage. I personally think that they just had damn good teams, period.

yeah but if those teams stink like you say , shouldn't they beat them anywhere , my point is if they played the games on the jersey turnpike boston should win at a healthy clip away from Fenway - the 5 yr peroid suggests they are an average team on the road and a way above average team at home (again 1 or 2 yr sample is too small)

dalakhani 06-24-2009 02:12 PM

Why do people make me defend the red sox? I hate them but the facts are the facts:

The sox have the best road record in the american league. They did last year as welll

Wouldnt your theory make the Red Sox a very beatable team on the road in the postseason? Explain their success on the road in the postseasons. Dont give me the BS about the sample size. They have performed very well on the road in 4 out of the last 5 postseasons. The one they didnt they only played 2 games on the road and lost both to the White Sox, the year they crushed everybody.

I'll give you this year, but last year was:

LAA by a mile at 50-31
NYY at 41-40
Tampa at 40-41
Texas at 39-42
Boston at 39-42

+116 is the number - it's just laughable

the playoffs are a small sample set tim and you know it

They were obviously a very good team. They won 2 world series (sweeping both teams) and then they lost the pennent in 7 games.
So what is your point and conclusion? Is it that the umps make them be 29 games over .500 at home or is the water in the visitor's clubhouse tainted? Cause I'm guessing that they were a good team is not it.

palyoffs are random - 3 short series

i just wanted to get some opinions of what people think , i can see it happening 1 or 2 years , but now we are going on 5+yrs of almost 60 wins at home and .500 or sub .500 ball on the road - they are playin the same teams , watch some games in full , watch the strike zone for their pitchers on the road vs home ...see if you notice anything , bobby cox sure did

SCUDSBROTHER 06-24-2009 03:32 PM

For one thing, how do you define a home game, because it seems like they usually have the majority of the crowd with them (in most games they play.) Look at that crowd in Washington last night. That's a problem that needs to be dealt with. Spray to rid your space of this vermin.

Cannon Shell 06-24-2009 03:59 PM

The theory that the umpires favor the Red Sox at home and screw the Yankees is preposterous. The fact is that the Red Sox have a much better front office who have built a real team as opposed to the yankees who consistently trot out a fantasy league team with no regard to defense or a bullpen outside a closer. And what do you think they will do after Mariano leaves?

chuck - watch the strike zones a few games at fenway , then watch them on the road

i wouldn't make a big stink , but, a buddy of mine has been tracking this stuff , and 5+ yrs is getting ridiculous ---20 games more a year at home they are winning

Gales I watch far too many baseball games as it is. Anyone that "tracks" that kind of stuff without using the technology found at mlb.coms gamecast is wasting their time. And if there was a trend that favored the Red Sox you can bet your ass that they would have been outed already. It is so stupid that I would seriously advise you not to repeat this in public unless you are solely in the company of other delusional Yankee fans. Most Yankee gibberish is just from spoiled fans who are perhaps the least objective group of fans outside Lexington, KY. The umps are cheating against the Yankees and for the Red Sox? Perhaps the most idiotic yet.

Come on Gales, I detest the Red Sox more than any team on earth but this conspiracy theory is ridiculous.

Please don't tell me that you are going to do recaps of blown calls in MLB on a daily basis. I'm not sure if I can take it.
