People can not become physically addicted to marijuana. Its a habit type thing i guess. Completely different than other drugs including alcohol and tobacco.

So they can become psychologically addicted to weed? Why are there(apparently) so many long-time users?

I guess I am looking at it strictly as the harm or the potential harm it has towards others, especially when people choose to operate a vehicle on a public road. Kind of narrow minded in that aspect I guess...

I know people that have had to smoke it 3-4 times a day just to get through the day. Sounds physically addictive to me.

I just looked it up and there MAY be some physical addiction, but it's generally not considered one.

Now the 'roni pizza after? That's a physical addiction

You might not want to go down this road. Pot is addictive, but it isn't as quick to become addictive, such as herion and crack.

As in all things in life, moderation is the key to almost everything.

I see no problem with someone pulling a couple bong hits on a Friday night to enhance relaxation with some friends once in a while.

But when it is a part of your daily routine, it is an issue.

There's nothing in it that causes a physical addiction. Some people can become mentally addicted though where they like the feeling of being high so much that they have cravings to smoke. The rate of that is far lower than for any other drugs out there.

there is a phycological (sp?) addiction but no physical addiction.

Its probably harder to quit coffee than pot.

Definately harded to quit cigs than pot.

Can't even compare quitting alcohol & hard drugs to pot.

Scholarly answer there, Tommy Chong!

Big difference though. There is no such thing as a recovered alcoholic becoming a social drinker. Once you hit alcoholism if you ever start to drink again, even casually, the addiction comes right back. In the case of pot you could develop a mental addiction to it if you smoke it regularly and quit and then go back later and just smoke casually without that addiction being guaranteed to come back.

anything that takes over your routine can be bad....i used to start every day with a big old bunch of coffee...i've cut back to wknds only, and generally only drink water during the day.
people are creatures of habit, the habit itself, moreso than what the habit IS, is usually the problem. people don't like change, in many things they do....look at how many say they want to quit smoking, but don't for example...i quit cold turkey, and i don't think i have any special powers. i made the decision to quit and did so. same thing when i decided to lose weight. some just decide they like their habit or are comfortable with it.

I would also be curious as to how many people that end up doing the "harder drugs" that people talk about, started with pot. I hear many stories of people that started with pot, but felt the need for a "better high."
